Two girls and a truck

The trip to New Haven was pretty uneventful, which is how I like my trips to be. I was nervous leaving MI due to not knowing if I would be able to get into my apartment upon arrival, but that got resolved somewhere in the middle of Ohio. Gab did an awesome job in her role of big sister; she not only has superb packing skills, but she also kept me calm whenever I started to freak out. Some things I learned on the trip where: having everything you own in a truck with your car attached is very unsettling; truck drivers like lattes, Starbucks is bigger than McDonalds - at least in terms of roadside signs on the Ohio turnpike; when the rental truck guys tells you not to try to reverse while you car is on the dolly attached to the truck, he means it; Pennsylvanians aren't real big on donuts, but once you're in New Jersey you can be dunkin at every exit.

After arriving in CT we went to Ikea, found Target, went to Ikea, found Trader Joe's, and went to Ikea. Gab was determined not to leave until my furniture was assembled and my internets were working. After some banging, drilling, gluing, and 2 modems later, I was all set. Gab flew back to MI and I guess, at least for the next 3 years, I'm home now.

Today the part of Ian Singleton will be played by Gabrielle.

Gab's packing - nothing moved the whole way. Her father should be proud.

On the road. After my comment about never using my side mirrors, Gab decided it would be safer if she drove.

mmm... Swedish furniture

Waiting for the glue to dry. Channeling Ian, Gab constructed my table out of a cupboard door from the Ikea's As-Is department.

Will work for food

I know I haven't blogged in a while, but I have had a harder time with Ann Arbor Exodus 2006 than I thought I would. I really miss my running crew, sunday brunch, stroller walks, the kiddie pool, and playgroup at the library; I still have the urge to chew up my food into bite-size pieces and put it back on my plate. Also, I have realized that providing food for myself all day, everday is hard and expensive - I'm not sure what I'm going to do without my all-you-can-eat buffet at The Winking Dog.

I'm in New Haven now trying out my potential favorite coffee shop; I should be getting the internets in my apartment tomorrow. I'll post about the move later.
