Dumplins and drag

I experienced 2 firsts today: I ate at Cracker Barrel and went to a Drag Queen Show.

After living in the US for a better part of the last 17 years and taking many a road trip, I have never actually stopped at a Cracker Barrel - that was, until today. I was on my way to Birch Run with my friend and her roommate for a little outlet shopping; after taking a short detour on the wrong freeway, we found ourselves to be quite hungry. During our detour we had had a discussion about Cracker Barrel so when we saw a sign we took it as, well, a sign. So we stopped in for some fine country cookin, and I was quite pleased. I decided to skip the meal and go ahead with dessert; I had the Baked Apple Dumplin, and let me tell you, it was both tasty and delicious. Cracker Barrel has a new loyal customer.

Later that evening, I went to The D for some drag, queen that is. I have never been to a drag queen show before, but basically it is men dressed as women, with more makeup on than the late Tammy Faye, lip syncing, while dancing around collecting dollar bills from audience members. It was not what I expected although, never having seen a show before I was not sure exactly what I was expecting. There was a very memorable routine involving a drag queen in a White Castle gown collecting the money in a Crave Case. It was very entertaining to watch and I had fun. I would have had more fun if there had been more than one waiter and one bartender and therefore more drinks, but overall it was a good time.
